Week 1: 72 miles



A good start to the trip! My initial target is to get to Reno in 3 weeks, which means I need to average 72 miles a week; so far, so good. According to my map, this means that I am on the outskirts of Davis, CA. Apparently, Davis i9s "ranked as the second-most-educated city in the United States" by CNN Money Magazine. No mention of which is the most-educated city, but I'm willing to bet that it isn't Washington...

Mon:12 miles (10 miles exercise bike; hills programme, level 12. 2 miles row; concept 2 rowing ergometer)
Tues: 7 miles (run with Abbey Runners @ 7:45 min/mile pace)
Weds: 13 miles (6 miles exercise bike; random probramme, level 12. 7 miles run with gym running group @ 7:30 min/mile pace)
Thurs: 5 miles (run; track session with Abbey Runners, including a 3K time trial in 10:40)
Fri: rest day
Sat: 22 miles (run/walk; 9 hours orienteering in the Lake District, training for next month's OMM. This was a hard, hard day; carried packs all day, finished in the pitch dark)
Sun: 13 miles (run; Great Langdale Half Marathon in about 1hr 51mins - a PW for the distance. Ran as a 'bandit', sore quads from Saturday's efforts, hilly course, more about mental strength than physical fitness)
